About Karine

Karine is a Holistic Psychotherapist, Certified Clinical Aromatherapist, and Certified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Instructor as well as a poet, a vegan and lover of all animals, especially dogs!

She is a licensed psychotherapist (LICSW) in private practice with specialty training in individual, marriage and family therapy, as well as systems work, group therapy and trauma recovery. She holds graduate degrees in Psychology, Social Work, and Family Life Education, and certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Karine also is a Certified Perfect Health Instructor, via the Chopra Center University, and a yoga instructor.

From an early age, Karine had high hopes of becoming an Engineer in the Canadian army. She trained as an Officer-cadet in the Canadian army until an  accident ended her career. Though she was seriously hurt, she looks upon this experience as a growing one that allowed her to learn much about herself, the world, as well as her true life calling which is to help people traditionally and holistically by stimulating a greater awareness of one’s inner life and unifying the bridge that connects body, mind, and spirit. .

She is committed to a holistic perspective on healing.

With over 22 years of experience as a therapist in various settings, both in and outpatient, she has had the opportunity to treat Schizophrenia and Alzheimer's Disease in the elderly and ADHD and PTSD in children and adolescents. She has worked with the frail elderly where she experienced end-of-life and caregiving issues. Work in a community family clinic is where she honed her skills as a systemic family therapist and delved into communication and relational issues including emotional abuse, divorce and reconstituted family issues.

Karine has extensive experience with trauma and abuse victims throughout the lifespan. She has worked with families in community settings and with children and teens in school settings. She has also worked with first responders alongside her K-9 offering stress relief to first responders at crises and disaster sites.

Spiritual curiosity has led Karine to delve deep into the study of Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Yoga Philosophy, Shamanism, Sufi Mysticism, and Holistic Care for People and Animals beyond her traditional studies in psychotherapy (which include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Couple's Therapy).

These days you'll often find Popo, the resident therapy dog, in session along side Karine. This little therapist has quickly become a favorite of many clients.

Karine practices alternative modalities including ayurveda, yoga, meditation, homeopathy, herbs, general nutrition, aromatherapy, and flower essences.
